EP5 by Sean McGovern
Sean McGovern's new release “EP5” features the power pop song “Believe Me” with tones and musical values from Big Star, Cheap Trick, and Teenage Fanclub. McGovern is the primary songwriter here, working with poetry by Chris King. The music is direct and anxious while the poetry is imagistic and Expressionist rather than narrative.
The second song, "Quarantine Love Song” is another upbeat rocker with lyrics based on the poetry of Chris King. Written in the summer of 2020, this song tells a tale of love during troubled times.
The EP concludes with "Infectious” a classic sounding tune that longs to burst forth from your AM radio with nifty, driving guitar from Meghan Gohil.
EP5 was recorded by Sean McGovern at home in St. Louis County and Meghan Gohil at Hollywood Recording Studio in Los Angeles. Jay Lauterwasser of San Diego played bass, and Nick Barbieri played drums and added backup vocals. Quarantine Love Song features additional guitar and bass from Dave Melson from the band Melody Den. Meghan Gohil produced, mixed and mastered the record for Hollywood Recording Studio.
